Kindred Soul: The Trainer is seen by Pokémon as a true friend and an ally, not so much human as a fellow Pokémon. Kindred Souls can understand the speech of Pokémon to a degree and do not need to use their Warp Band to connect to Pokémon. They have the ability to attract and befriend many Pokémon, and can bond with one additional Pokémon companion every week. Additionally, the maximum number of Pokémon companions they may have is increased by 10.
History: Totsuka was abandoned by his birth parents when he was only 3 years old. Whatever their reasons were, if they already had too many children, or they had other plans for themselves, he does not know and never shows any interest in finding out. The couple who finds him in the park where he was first abandoned later adopts him, though that also doesn't go well for long - his adoptive father's gambling destroys their relationship within a few years, prompting his adoptive mother to leave.
Totsuka grew up poor but cheerful for it, winding up a really self-sufficient child from an early age due to their many difficulties. Often, they'd have trouble paying bills. Sometimes they'd have trouble paying for food. He learned to forage from childhood, wandering out into the forest to find edible things and very likely got to be on friendly terms with pokémon as he went.
Throughout his school career, he was difficult to deal with for his teachers. Not because he was the type to cause much trouble or pick on other students, but simply because it was hard to find a niche for him to fit into the world. He changed his preferences often enough to leave anyone exasperated, until he finally settled on becoming a trainer.
It wasn't until Totsuka was a teenager that he formed his first important bonds, despite his amicable nature. Much to the concern of his teachers, he became best friends with a powerful enlightened, who happened to be the kind of person most everyone expected to wind up a delinquent. True to form, Totsuka began getting into more trouble than before, but he still never looked back.
Now at 19 years of age, he continues not to.

when he was still a seedot, despite not being in the forest anymore, he liked to play pranks on people by pretending to be an inanimate object. or falling down on people's heads. also really in every concievable way.
he's still a trickster even now that he's a little more grown up. oh, and he can whistle? boy does he like whistling. totsuka is trying to teach him more melodies.

skarmory seems to have a minor blood iron deficiency resulting in anemia. the irony is staggering. despite the best of intentions, he often becomes a bit loopy and lightheaded in the middle of intensely serious situations and may or may not be a reliable vehicle on flights. on the plus side, whatever he crashes into usually doesn't get up again; skarmory himself has built a wonderful tolerance to crash landings, courtesy of its non-iron-deficient armored body.

sewaddle is extremely aggressive and often (slowly) waddles up to anything she perceives as an enemy (everyone) to blow pointy leaves in their face. this is less menacing than she would like to be, which is why she also accompanies its attacks with strongly worded declarations of intent. unfortunately, the majority of people do not speak the pokemon language. this behavior may become a problem when she evolves, but for now, it's not terribly alarming.
as a swadloon, hikaru still isn't a really big threat. she is, if anything, grumpier, a bit more on the sullenly suspicious side than openly agressive and hostile. it seems like she's slowly warming up to the idea that not everything is out to get her. maybe. possibly. at the very least she's more sure that totsuka is an exception to this rule.

stunfisk derives great pleasure from lying motionless in sticky mud. when out of mud, she's unhappy. happiness is expressed by the speed at which she flaps her little fins. ...that's about it. not all pokemon are interesting and complex individuals; besides, it's a stunfisk.

klefki, as can be expected, is a kleptomaniac attracted to anything that could even remotely resemble a key. this includes actual keys, warped pieces of metal, odd rocks, nails, large pieces of jewelry, and baby klinks. the last is particularly problematic in some ways. klefki's loop is constantly filled to the brim with her collection and she's invariably preceded by the clinking of a thousand odds and ends.

vulpix is unusually lax about personal grooming for its species and spends most of its time sleeping instead. he maintains his coat in a perpetual state of highly fashionable 'bed-fur' and only wakes up for food and for fights. during the latter, vulpix is so disoriented that it causes more damage yawning out large bursts of flames than any actual attacks he means to summon.

lady feels that her people are unfairly maligned by humans and other pokémon and strives to redeem the reputation of all zubats (ald golbats and crobats) everywhere by behaving in a perfectly ladylike way. unfortunately, every time she smiles, it looks like she's baring her fangs to start sucking someone's blood, so her efforts tend to be less than successful.
she refused to evolve for weeks on end, not ready to look even more menacing than she was. in the end, she relented, but only once she was sure enough of her trainer and the rest of the family.
either way, lady is a very kind and caring soul who has trouble seeing people (or pokémon) upset.

kiku found totsuka and his team more than they found him. he's decided they need looked after, especially totsuka, and has decided that he's going to do that. so he keeps track of the team's wellbeing, more than anything, explaining clearly and succinctly when he believes they need to rest or get treated.
... he does not in fact do much to keep the lot of them out of trouble, though.

yin is gentle and quiet, but adamant when she does put her paw down. as such, she still hasn't talked about why she decided to follow totsuka, but kotori at least seems to feel ill at ease about the whole thing. ... not that this deters the absol any.
for some reason, yin seems to have a particular love for all things red. sometimes she hoards them, leading to totsuka's red sneakers often being covered in white fur.

pancham is extremely competitive and hates to lose at anything. this includes such mundane tasks as finishing breakfast first or being first out the door. if someone suggested a 'who can stay quiet the longest' contest, pancham might be mistaken for mute. unfortunately, she's not a very good sport either, and all other competitors in her perceived games might find themselves being nefariously removed from the competition through some underhanded tricks.

trapinch doesn't particularly care about much of anything but his nest, which he's made in a nice sandy spot outside of tatara's housing tower. battles are fine and being summoned on the warp band is fine, but really, he would prefer to just sleep in the sand all day. when he's bored, he makes sand sculptures that vaguely resemble tatara and his team, but he's not usually bored. who can be bored with such a nice nest?
naps are clearly superior to boredom, after all.

sumiko is a firm advocate that the slow and steady way is the best way, and believes that everyone should feel the same way. if there were a speed limit, she would always go at least 10mph under, and would trot in such a way that no one would be able to get around her. she also stops frequently if she feels that someone is following her too closely.

sora is a rather calm, pleasant bird with a mild temperament and a lovely singing voice. he does, however, really like attention, and uses his singing to draw more. he can't do it directly however, he's too shy for that, but he tries to get people to look his way whenever possible.

say what you will about how cute or timid a charmander seems, this one's had attitude from day 1. spunky and never one to let a challenge slide by, kaen often doesn't think about what he does before he does it... and once he turns around and tries to fix it, tends to make matters worse rather than better. nervousness makes him clumsy. lucky for him he doesn't often get nervous.

kaika is a tough one. outspoken and honest but optimistic, she's never one to duck out of the way of potential trouble. nobody's quite sure where her confidence comes from, but some have begun to suspect it'll get her hurt before long.

miyo is a bit of a misanthropist and finds it extremely difficult to relate to anyone or anything. he tolerates tatara as long as he feeds him, but most of his time is spent plotting the downfall of various other pokémon he dislikes (read: all of tatara's other pokémon). fortunately, miyo is a plant growing out of a rock, so the mobility to carry out these plans tends to be a bit of a stumbling block. a crinoid can always dream, though.
it doesn't help that mochi has immediately tried to befriend him and tends to hang out around the same rock so long as it happens to be in the sun. whether an unlikely friendship is developing here or an attempted murder is only a matter of time remains to be seen.

aibo tends towards the melancholy. quiet and obedient, it's generally a model member of tatara's team and is quite reliable for any and all assorted tasks. when it has free time, though, it sometimes wanders out towards the woods and quietly makes dolls out of mud in its own image. it gazes at them thoughtfully and pensively for hours... it's not clear what's going on in its mind.
